Much like the rest of the world, we have done things that shouldn’t be celebrated. But that does not mean we can just change what we don’t like about our past. We need to remember where we came from, just so we can use it as a guide for the future. Or we risk repeating the mistakes again and again Cyndie Guut Yeah, statues are our only source of history. Every record has been destroyed or falsified. There is no book on the civil war anymore. No paintings or photographs either. We just forgot about the civil war. All because a few statues were removed. Please. If you want to learn history, read a book. Leni Baliza TODAY: SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT EVENT CANCELLED IN DETROIT BECAUSE THEY DON'Y WANT A CAR WITH THE REBEL FLAG NEAR THEM. The Dukes of Hazzard and Smokey and the Bandit were a little famous. But how soon we forget! Let's not forget slavery, colonization, or rebellion too soon It's kind of important. Debbie Johnson The hypocrisy, on both sides, is astounding. Conservatives have fit about 'rewriting' history when people want to dispose of the the symbols of the army that fight against the USA. Then they refuse to believe Columbus was an asshole. They refuse to believe the US has had a less than altruistic hand in the shaping of the world. Nathanial Lovgren "Erasing History" Nice trolling If a serial killer and rapist of children makes history by getting caught and telling his story, you would have a monument for him in order not to forget history? Hm Yves Guevremont I don't believe you guys. In order for me to believe you I need you to repeat this one historically verifiable fact. The Confederacy was founded on the notion that black people were less than white people and that keeping them as property was good and moral. Can't wait to see the replies I'm gonna get on this one. Carolyn Sproles Hey op did you cry too when they removed saddams statue in Iraq and Hitler name in Berlin? Jennifer Treviño Muñeca Azteca Robert E. Lee himself was against the erection of confederate monuments. Regarding the erasing of history, I have a two good exemples. The first one is Philippe Pétain. He was a french general during WW1. He won the battle of Verdun and became the commander in chief that ultimately won the war. He was appointed Marshal of France and was a national hero. Streets and places were named after him, statues were erected. But it all disappeared. Because he singed the armistice with Hitler in 1940 and became a Nazi collaborator. Yet his role in both wars are still taught in class. People in France know who he is and what he did. Nazis are the second exemple. There's not a lot of Adolf Hitler streets but his legacy survives. Robert Ferguson I'm from Germany. Did we erase our history because we tore down the swastikas? Shannon Kilfoil-Russo I love how conservatives claim to love the constitution or the declaration of independence but glorify people who actively went against the core principles of those documents. I thought this was the party of Lincoln? What happened to "Actually democrats were the ones who started the kkk."? The only people that are glorifying slave owners are conservatives right now. And the books are still there. There are records of the history still readily available. Perhaps more available than they have ever been. Alia Khan Who controls the past controls the future. Aubrey Bettie Womp womp Don't worry your confederate racist history is well known over the world Mahalia Waitere "History was written by the victorious" ... but if you take away their statues, that´s not good (?) Juna Lin Most of the Confederate Monuments were bult during the Reconstruction an dthe Civil Rights Movement; they were bulit to show the Blacks their place Cris Sangster The leaders of North Korea were a fan of big brother that they implemented it in irl Dana Sue Veach As we all know museums are made so people forget about the past and nevermind that history about the civil war is readily accessible. Robin Guillory Franks What does a statue tell you about history? Shelly Mae Yeah stop puting statues down of slave owners that were eracted during Jim Crow! Im sure those statues are celebrating history instead of some other racial motivator... Gun Hamberg Go with Big Brother! Get link Facebook X Pinterest Email Other Apps Comments
